Mission

The mission of Marble Springs Outdoor Education Area is to serve school students, families, local and regional groups promoting outdoor learning and enjoyment, and the general public. The Marble Springs Outdoor Education Area provides an active learning environment dedicated to human and environmental health and conserving the natural history and cultural heritage of the Marble Springs community. The MSOEA will serve school students, families, local and regional groups as well as the general public to promote outdoor learning and enjoyment.

The Marble Springs Outdoor Education Area addresses three critical contemporary educational issues:
  • Childhood Health. The Marble Springs OEA counteracts sedentary, nature-deficit lifestyles by enticing children and adults to spend more time outdoors without all the conveniences of present day lifestyles, engaged in healthy active play and learning experiences immersed in natural settings.

  • Ecosystem Health. The Marble Springs OEA educates present and future generations about human dependency on the natural world through hands-on learning in diverse natural ecosystems.

  • Cultural Identity. The Marble Springs OEA conserves the cultural heritage and traditions of the Hiwassee River Watershed through cultural animation programs using traditional materials such as river cane and traditional methods applied to contemporary contexts.
